President’s Message – September 2014

8 Sep

Hello Everyone

Well here it is the middle of August. All of the children went back to school on Monday.

Even though it is mentioned otherwise in the newsletter I would to ask to please obey the speed limits. The high schoolers at the end of my street almost got all wiped out by a truck leaving and almost ran them all over. So please try and slow down.

Also as noted there is still not a secretary for the association. We really need for people to volunteer to help out the association because without volunteers we would not be able to have the events that we have and the way of life that we are all used to.

On another note not sure how many people knew him but we lost a good friend and a longtime resident of the IOP. Even though he moved away years ago he is still considered as such due to the efforts he put forth for this community. We will be having a memorial service at the park (asked for by his wife) on August 23.

Our next event coming up will be the Halloween party. I really hope that we see a good turnout.

Also the end of the year is only 4 months so please keep in mind that in January will be the membership drive where the new board will be nominated. Would really like to see some of the new people that have moved into the neighborhood volunteer to be on the board. After all the board meeting in only one Tuesday evening a month.

Thanks in advance for your support of our community

President’s Message – June 2014

5 Jun

Here it is the beginning of June.

Today, June 2nd, I noticed one of the picnic tables at the park was destroyed. I hope that whoever damaged it was just clowning around and didn’t get hurt. Also, beer bottles were smashed on the bathrooms. This is vandalism and if caught we will prosecute. This is the second incident in as many months. Take pride in our park – KEEP IT CLEAN!

Please take a moment to review the park rules that are posted on our website at isleofpines.org. Out of respect for others, please follow the rules. They are there to protect everyone.

I hope everyone is looking forward to the father’s day fishing tournament and fish fry this month. The community’s participation is what makes this event so special.

The Rajun Cajun is our annual fund raiser we host to support our community. Through this effort we are able to afford improvements to the park and facilities. These funds also contribute to the functions we host throughout the year. This year’s event was a success. Sounds like everyone had a great time.

We have a couple of open positions to complete board. The position of secretary is still open. The community is grateful for any time you can share to keep this neigh- borhood running.

The fence to the left of the main gate is on the schedule to be installed next week Remember: If you can hear your dogs barking – other people can hear it too. Have a safe 2014

Hello Everyone

Well here it is the beginning of May. This year is sure going by fast. Kids will soon be out of school for the summer. Please be aware of this and try to maintain the 35 MPH speed limit.

We have a (better late then never) Cinco De Mayo party on May 10, 2014

Also have the fathers day fishing tournament coming up.

We have the Rajun Cajun coming up which is our annual fund raiser that we have to support our community. Through this effort we are able to afford improvements to the park and facilities and also the functions that we have.

We do still have a couple of open positions so as to have a full board. And the position of secretary is still open.

Also have been asked to remind people that if they hear their dogs barking a lot that other people can hear it also.

Also would to offer my condolences to the McGlashan family. Larry left us on April 8,2014

Also have accepted bids for to fix the fence to the left of the main gate will be voting on this at next board meeting

President’s Message – April 2014

Glad to hear everyone made it thru the tornado we had last week. I know some people had damage like my neighbor whose trailer was destroyed by a falling tree, the community experienced lots of yard debris and some residents noticed damage to their roof. I’m pleased to report I have not heard of any neighbors who were injured during the storm.

We had a beach cleanup a couple of weeks ago and just had the normal people plus one new person show up. We need your help to keep the beach clean! I know making time to volunteer is hard, but these cleanups are needed for our community to succeed. The more people who volunteer, the easier it is on everyone who participates in our clean ups.

On Saturday, April 12, we have the IOP Easter Party and a triathlon. The kids really have a good time rounding up eggs and watching their parents and other adults search for eggs.

The Saint Patrick’s Day party was a success. We really had a good turnout. Many thanks to Mike Land for coordinating this event.

We have the Rajun Cajun coming up which is our annual fundraiser supporting the Isle of Pines community. This event enables up to afford improvements to the park and facilities as well as the seasonal events we have throughout the year.

We have a couple open positions on the board including the secretary position.

Please remember that even though we have a nice, new paved road the speed limit is still 35 mph so please drive carefully.

Also, I have been asked to remind people that if they hear their dogs barking a lot, other people can hear it to.

Have a safe 2014

President’s Message – March 2014

5 Mar

Hello Everyone,

Well welcome to 2014 . Even though it is March it is still a new year . First off I would like to take the opportunity to thanks Terry Aikens for being president for the two past years. Great job Terry

We have a lot of events coming up this year the Easter party, fathers day fishing and July 4 just to name a few. These are what makes this a unique community. If you talk to other people and ask what do you get from your association they mostly just say the grass cut and a lot of rules to follow. Well we try to do things as a community that people would enjoy.

I have been a resident of the IOP for over 25 years and have raised my three children here. They love it out here so much that one left and then bought a house here and moved back., I also know of other neighbors that have the same thing.

Please try to help the association as much as you can REMEMBER all board members are volunteering their time and could use all the support we can get .

We do still have a couple of open positions so as to have a full board. And the position of secretary is still open.

Please remember that even though we have a nice new paved road the speed limit is still 35 mph so please drive carefully.

Have a safe 2014

President’s Message – January 2014

The longer I live in the IOP the more I realize how distinctive our neighborhood is. Not because the homes look alike and the yards are perfectly manicured, but be- cause all the homes are unique. There are many different types of homes, gardens, manicured yards, yards left to nature and an abundance of trees. The IOP has so much nature surrounding our borders with the Isle of Pines Preserve and the lake. I feel as we are separated from the growth that has happened in many parts of Orlando that the IOP is very peaceful and relaxing place to live, like going camping but having all the comforts of home.

It has been a privilege to serve as a steward on the IOP board for many years. At the Annual Wine and Cheese event IOP members will vote the 2014 IOP board members into office. The first meeting in February, the IOP board will elect the executive board into office. Also the board will vote on bids and events for 2014 calendar year. This upcoming year the 2014 IOP board will look for events and opportunities to enhance our association for its members.

See you all there!

President’s Message – December 2013

This is a busy time for everyone with holiday parties, relatives coming to visit and all that shopping to do. I hope you take the time to for a walk in our IOP Preserve or just on the back roads and enjoy the neighborhood we all love.

Our association will be busy too with the upcoming events, membership drive and starting a new IOP board. Before you know it we will be doing it all again. I would like to know what kinds of events you would like to see in the next year. Drop any board member an email or come to a meeting to provide input in your membership next year.

In our neighborhood we may encounter many different types of wildlife, which is one of the reasons most of us call this our home. Be aware of your surroundings, I have been notified of a panther sighting in the IOP near Devonshire and be mindful of the usual deer crossings. If you find an injured animal please call:

I came across this exciting news at http://www.btn-wildlife.org

Welcome to the official page of Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge & Education Center, located in Orlando, FL. We are the largest registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to Rescue, Raise, Rehabilitation and Release of Central Florida’s injured and orphaned native wildlife.

We’re Moving into Our New Home!.

In 2007, BTN was granted 20 acres of land by the Orange County Environmental Protection Department, as part of a 40 year lease. The new site will be located off of Narcoossee Rd and Clapp Simms Duda Rd. (adjacent to Split Oak Pre- serve). We are extremely grateful to be partnering with the county to help Central Florida’s wildlife.

Hope you all have a healthy and prosperous New Year!

President’s Message – November 2013

4 Dec

Let’s not forget Thanksgiving and especially giving thanks for the great neighborhood we live in! I have many things to be thankful for, I am thankful for my wonderful neighbors in the IOP. I just bought a solar powered turkey and it is bobbing its head in agreement with me.

We had a successful community yard sale! I hope we can continue them year after year that will make sure we get folks in town interested. Great job everyone on your signs!

The IOP Christmas party and golf cart parade are the next upcoming events. Would love to see you at the pavilion decorating party Sunday Dec 8th at 2:00, music and refreshments. All ages are welcome and young people can get volunteer hours for school too. See you at these one of a kind events!

I am looking forward to driving around our neighborhood to see all the decorated homes our neighbors really do some spectacular displays. This year you can drive through Moss Park and see “Light up the Wild” too.

It is still not too late to join the IOP association you can contact Hugh or myself to join.

The IOP association is looking forward to next year and asking for new board members; contact anyone on the board know you are interested in being on the ballot. There is one board member that was put on the ballot to just see if he would be elected and he was he has been a great asset to our board as all our board members are. Giving back to our small community is very rewarding for all of us.

Thanks to the volunteers for maintaining the IOP playground and beach areas these areas are looking well maintained and free of weeds. Thank you to all the volunteers that have given their time to our association!

The IOP Facebook has been a great success if you haven’t joined look for groups on Face book or go to isleofpines.org and connect from there. Post info only important to IOP, lost animals, free items, and events happening in and around the IOP.

Enjoy every minute of the holidays!

President’s Message – October 2013

15 Oct

So long summer, hello fall….our Halloween Party is next on the agenda then the annual Community Yard sale, the Kids Fishing Tournament and should I mention Christmas so soon? We will be planning and pre-planning these wonderful IOP events. There are some IOP members that in the past have given a lot of time and energy to our events. As all of us get busy with other obligations we need to have others get involved. If you want the events that help bring our community together to continue, the time is now to get involved. Come help decorate for an event or help clean up, it only takes a little of your time.

Please remember to close and lock the gate after you enter the Park.

Last month before our meeting I found all the garbage cans full and placed on the counter under the pavilion, which then they were full of ants. Please help out as this is a volunteer association, we do not have garbage pickup or a designated per- son that does this.

Keep our neighborhood safe, slow down when you enter it and leave. Be aware of the school buses and the animals crossing the road.

It is great to have so many new people moving into our neighborhood we do have a unique neighborhood. I hope to meet all of you at the events.

President’s Message – September 2013

So many residents of the IOP find time to contribute to our community. These are just a few ways residents are involved besides being neighborly. Promoting safety with the speed limit sign, checking with Moss Park for the water conditions, having signs made, working with the schools by serving on committee’s, volunteering with teachers, corner marshals for the Triathlon, LMJA, neighborhood watch, board members and volunteers for the IOPPOA. Being involved in our community makes this neighborhood an outstanding place to live!

Dana, Al and Mike have finished painting and sealing the dock and it looks great! Thanks guys!

Who brought in the Big Bass this year at the Father’s Day Fish tournament? Most of the 8 registered boats brought in bass for the weigh in, but the Big Bass trophy went to our own Lisa Boyd. Thank you Dana, Mike and Al for this fun event.

IOP residents showed their patriotic pride by participating in our one of kind 4th of July Parade. Good turn out for a spectacular party and firework show in the IOP Association. Thank you Shawn, Anna, John, Nikki, Al, Mike and all those that volunteered to making the IOP a great place to be for this 4th of July.

See you in the IOP,

Terry Aikens
